Corruption is an ultimate enormous obstacle to the realization of all human rights i.e. civil, political, economic, social, cultural, and right to development as well. Corruption violates the core human rights principles of transparency, accessibility, non-discrimination, and meaningful participation in each and every aspect of the life of the people.’

How does corruption effect human right?

Basically corruption affect human right directly and indirectly either it maybe knowingly or unknowingly.



Not even the decisions through judiciary is always correct because corrupted judiciary compromises judicial independence and it violates the right to a fair trial. More generally, the corruption in justice system contributes to an environment in other human rights get abused occurring impunity, such as mass arrests, torture, and inhuman degrading treatment. Hence, these corruption are leading to informal, sometimes violent and dispute resolution.

1. Respect

The purpose to respect rights means that people mustn’t engage in corrupt practices that directly impact rights.

2.   Protect

The duty to protect states to prevent, investigate, and punish corrupted peoples by officials and third parties.

3.   Fulfil

The duty of people to fulfil rights states to have concrete plans, policies, laws, and institutions in place to address corruption and properly utilize their resource.

The relationship between human rights and anti-corruption

While corruption negatively impacting on a range of human rights, measures preventing to corruption can also be problematic in human right terms. The process of finding, investigating corruption must comply with the right to a fair trial, the right to property and the right to privacy. This meant anti-corruption efforts, such as measures against illicit enrichment criticized by some states, and recovery of stolen asset meet the human rights law test of being lawful and proportionate.
